Blog it up.
Stop it already..
There’s a few things I need to get off my chest and tell the designers (new and old) out there:

This font, Zapfino, is a headache. I challenge you to open anything – a magazine, newspaper.. go online.. and NOT see this font used. We, as designers, NEED to be over it. We need to use different fonts for ‘classy’ pieces. I know, I know.. you just bought your new computer (definitely a Mac; it comes stock on a Mac) and don’t have any other preloaded fonts that fit this description.
I’m not alone in my thoughts. Here’s an excerpt taken from J Mills Pays Bills (.com):
I have to be honest, the first time I saw Zapfino, I thought to myself “hey that font’s not half bad.” So did millions of other people, I guess, too. There comes a point when a certain, easy to spot font shouldn’t be used anymore. Zapfino’s time has come and gone.
The enormous ascender and descender height could be misconstrued as “elegant” or “original” by some, but what doesn’t make it elegant or original is the fact that it has become the default font for just about every poorly designed clipper magazine and coffee news ad across the country.
He’s got some other ones listed on the above link that need to go away also. Reminds me of this great video the kids at CollegeHumor did about fonts. We used to roll about this one…
Enough already.

Ps.. stop using this image, too..

Target ads. Best Buy circulars. Insurance companies, Realtors… Prosthetic brochure? We’ve even purchased this photo for something years ago (I’d like to say it was before the mass sightings, but what do I know). Ricky Martin and his family need to retire.

Hey there. Thanks for finding my blog. Great article!
Down with zapfino!!
